OUR VETS

Dr Murray Collings BVSc., MVS

MainPic

Murray graduated from the University of Queensland in 1986 and commenced his veterinary career taking up a two year post in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital at Werribee. Here he was trained in advanced surgerical procedures and completed a thesis in Osteocondrosis in dogs (a common joint disease of young, large breed dogs that often leads to arthritis later in life).

After gaining his Masters in Veterinary Studies, he returned to his home state working in a four veterinarian small animal practice overseeing the surgical case load. In 1990 he returned to Melbourne and established the Middle Brighton Veterinary Centre.

Murray's main interest lies in surgery, particularly in orthopaedic surgery, which often sees him called out to numerous practices to perform their more demanding surgeries. He does also enjoy small animal medicine and dermatology.

When not working and looking after his family, Murray can be seen around the streets of Melbourne in preparation for his marathon running.

Dr Anna Platt BVSc (Hons), MVS

MainPic

Anna graduated Dux of her year in 1989 from Melbourne University. She began her veterinary career as a Medical and Surgical Intern in Small Animals at the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital. Here she completed her Masters of Veterinary Studies, with a thesis in Cardiomyopathy in Doberman dogs.

Anna then worked in two Emergency and Critical Care centers in Melbourne which was invaluable experience. After working in a number of Small Animal clinics both in Melbourne and England, Anna joined the Middle Brighton Veterinary Centre in 1996.

Anna is very interested in small animal medicine and behaviour of dogs and cats, and is dedicated to the health and welfare of the patients in the practice.

Anna always wanted to be a vet and has never been without a pet in her life. Murray and Anna have two daughters, Madeline and Olivia, and two cats Austin and Hunter - both were strays presented to the clinic looking for a home. Then there is Gina, their very cute and talented Border Terrier dog - who demonstrates her skills at Puppy Preschool. Gina became a mum in August 2008 to 6 puppies - 5 girls and a boy, Tonic. They also have 2 dwarf rabbits, Lettuce and Thumper, who are kept caged in their hutch at night but have the run of the garden during the day.

When not looking after her family and pets, Anna enjoys swimming, reading, sewing and walking Gina and Tonic.

Dr Elena Sammut BSc BVMS DipVetClinStud

MainPic

Elena graduated from Murdoch University in Perth in 1991. After a year travelling in the USA she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies at the University of Sydney. She then settled into veterinary practice as a racehorse veterinarian until 1997, when she 'saw the light' and committed to full time small animal practice.

Elena enjoys the day to day practice of meeting people and their pets. She is particularly interested in challenging medical cases and preventative medicine.

Elena lives locally and teams working part time at Middle Brighton Veterinary Centre with family life. Her family are very proud of their beautiful young cat Klinker. Klinker came to the clinic as a surrendered kitten with a badly broken leg. The leg was successfully operated on and she now has a happy home with Elena's family.
